Johor Bahru Old Chinese Temple



Johor Bahru Old Chinese Temple also known as Old Temple by locals. It is located in Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia in town area. This temple has a symbol of unity among Five Chinese Dialect Groups which are 'Teochew', 'Hokkien' , 'Cantonese' , ' Hakka' and 'Hainan'.


This temple be founded in year 1870. The 5 main gods is 'Yuan Tian God' , 'Ang Shiang Tai Tee', 'Gan Tian God', 'Hua Guang God' and 'Zhao Da Yuan Shuai'.




This temple has a biggest celebration which is chingay in Johor Bahru for 3 days starting on first Lunar 20. The annual Chingay has attracted more than 300,000 people to join together around the major roads of Johor Bahru together with the 5 Deities being worshiped in the Old Temple. This is one of the chinese culture in Johor Bahru.




The whole building is designed according to the southern Chinese architecture, with a strong Chaozhou architecture style. The temple is divided into front yard, main building, backyard and rooms. Its roof design is the gradual increase in the way,  the front yard door is the shortest. The main entrance of the hall is higher and the roof become higher and higher at the prayer part. This is the traditional Chinese architectural features, to highlight the importance of the hall through the roof level.
