Saleng Jade Emperor Temple at Kulai, Johor, have a celebration of welcome of 'God of Wealth'. It is an activity on Chinese New Year Eve annually.
There is a ‘God of Wealth' in the temple. Chinese people will always love of this God because it will bring some luck in money.
“God of Wealth” is one of the most
famous gods in Taoism. Generally, “God of Wealth” is worshiped and received by
most of the in household, companies and shops since they hope the “God of
Wealth” brings wealth in their life. The most common “Gods of Wealth” in Taoism
are Main Wealth God (“Zhao Gong Ming”), Civil Wealth God (“Fan Li”), Military
Wealth God (“Guan Yu - Guan Yun Chang”), God of Wealth of the Five Directions
(“Goki Choi Yun”) and Quasi-God of Wealth (“Liu Hai Chan”).
Main Wealth God - It is a well know god enshrines by the world and the most influential
one is “Zhao Gong Ming”.
Civil Wealth God – “Fan Li” claim to be “Tao Zhu Gong” who is a Civil Wealth God. “Fan Li” was
an outstanding politician, thinker, tactician and strategist and at the same
time, he was also a person who expertly in money –making in spring and autumn period.
Military Wealth God – In legend, “Guan Yu - Guan
Yun Chang” has managed military base before and he was expert in math. Since he
act in good faith and be loyal to his brothers and thus enshrined by the
business man. Generally “Guan Yu” is regarded by the business man as their patron
saint and god of wealth in their life.
God of Wealth of the Five Directions – Civil and military wealth god are main wealth
god in the folk, while outside of main wealth god has a “slant” god of wealth which
is known as “Goki Choi Yun”.
Quasi-God of wealth – In the folk, among the beliefs in a numerous of wealth of god have a
types of wealth of god call as Quasi-God of wealth which haven’t obtain the
title of god of wealth; but since Quasi- God of Wealth can bring in a certain
amount of wealth which has bear a part of duty of the god of wealth and thus
regarded by the peoples as a god of wealth and the most representative one is
“Liu Hai Chan”.
